"How Tweet It Is!" Die Library of Congress erwirbt das Twitter-Archiv. Sämtliche öffentliche Tweets seit März 2006 digital archiviert.

Im Blog der Library of Congress schreibt Matt Raymond dazu: "Every public tweet, ever, since Twitter’s inception in March 2006, will be archived digitally at the Library of Congress. That’s a LOT of tweets, by the way: Twitter processes more than 50 million tweets every day, with the total numbering in the billions."

Ziel sei es, mehr über "the world around us from this wealth of data" aus dem Twitter-Archiv zu erfahren. "And I’m certain we’ll learn things that none of us now can even possibly conceive."

Die Library of Congress sammle seit 2000 Material aus dem Internet: Momentan halte sie über 167 Terabytes an webbasierten Informationen. Weiter leite sie das National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (www.digitalpreservation.gov); mit der Aufgabe: "pursuing a national strategy to collect, preserve and make available significant digital content, especially information that is created in digital form only, for current and future generations."
