Wir haben seit etwa 25 Jahren eine Alternative zum Sommerloch. Wir stellen vier große Veranstaltungen auf die Beine und zwar an jedem der Augustsonntag. Bei "Literatur im Biergarten" verfügen wir über 300 Plätze und sind immer ausverkauft. Kombiniert wird dort Literatur und etwas Musik. Alle Karten werden nur bei uns im Laden verkauft. Der Vorverkauf beginnt schon im Juni und ist ein großer Umsatzbringer im Sommer.

Wir haben gerade eine neue Klimaanlage installiert und hoffen, dass so die Verweildauer der Kunden sich verlängert. Sonst hatten wir bei 35 Grad Außentemperatur locker 30 Grad im Laden. Bislang bemerken wir das Sommerloch trotz einer Baustelle direkt vor dem Laden noch nicht. Aber nach Ferienbeginn ist damit wohl zu rechnen. Veranstaltungen im Sommer machen wir in der Regel nicht, dafür ist es trotzallem einfach zu heiß. Bei unserer jetzt noch anstehenden letzten Lesung vor den Ferien haben wir bislang auch nur acht Anmeldungen.

Ein echtes großes Sommerloch haben wir eigentlich nicht. Die Flaute ist eher im Mai zwischen Konfirmation und Schulbuchverkauf. Wenn dann ist es in der Ferienmitte vielleicht mal etwas ruhiger. Bei großer Hitze sorgen wir mit einem Wassernapf für die Hunde, da wir viele Kunden mit Vierbeinern haben. Außerdem haben wir Tische und Stühle vor dem Geschäft, wo die Leute sich auch mal hinsetzen und ihr Eis essen können.

Auch dank der Touristen gibt es bei uns kein Sommerloch. Wir bieten den Kunden gerade bei großer Hitze kaltes Wasser an oder liefern Bücher direkt nach Hause – das ist bei uns aber auch ein Standard das ganze Jahr über. Wir haben Sommeraktionen wie gerade jetzt, wo die Kinder für eine Eins in Deutsch einen Fünf-Euro-Gutschein für den Zirkus bekommen. Außerdem gibt es seit langem in den Ferien die Kinderbuchtage – dieses Mal geht es zur Polizei, wo deren Fahrzeuge vorgestellt werden.

Wir merken das Sommerloch durch eine niedrigerer Kundenfrequenz, was wohl auch an den permanenten Unwettern liegt. Das Sommerloch können wir in diesem Jahr durch den höhreren Bedarf an Deutschlehrbüchern für die Deutschkurse stopfen. Dazu kommt eine Veranstaltungsreihe mit Musik und die entsprechende Fensterdeko mit Ferien und Schulanfang. So sind wir trotz Sommerloch immer noch sehr gut beschäftigt.

Bei uns ist das Sommerloch dank des Schulbuchverkaufs eher ein Sommerhoch, bei dem wir sogar Bedarf an Aushilfen haben. Das ist für uns das zweite Weihnachtsgeschäft. Ansonsten gehört für uns zum Sommer der fruchtig, kalte Sommerdrink in unserem Kaffee. Außerdem beteiligen wir uns an Ferienaktionen und haben auch eine Feriengruppe bei uns im Laden zu Gast.

An der Bar im Geschäfts sind aktuell vor allem kalte Getränke gefragt. Begehrt ist jetzt auch die Sitzbank vor dem Laden, je nach Bedarf und Tageszeit als Schatten- oder Sonnenbank.

Die Zahl der Daheimgebliebenen und der Urlauber hält sich bei uns in den Ferien in etwa die Waage. Für die heißen Tage haben wir unseren schattigen Garten, der gerne von den Kunden genutzt wird und in dem auch ein Gartencafé angeboten wird. Auch die kleine Klimaanlage erhöht die Kundenverweildauer im Geschäft. Dazu kommen Ferienaktionen wie die Spielenachmittage für Kinder und Jugendliche.

Hier ist es im Sommer sehr schön. Meine Buchhandlung liegt direkt am viel bewanderten Hermannsweg. Ich gewinne viele neue Kunden einfach damit, dass ich sie hier bei mir mal den Sanitärraum aufsuchen lasse. Außerdem feiere ich im Sommer mit meinen Kunden Geburtstag, weil ich an dem Tag auch meinen Laden gegründet habe. Schlecht läuft es bei mir eher im April und Mai.
