"Dealers face huge challenges"

Im aktuellen Newsletter 206 fordert "Sheppard's Confidential" britische und internationale Händler zur Teilnahme an einem "Trade research" zur Zukunft des Antiquariatsbuchhandels auf: "At almost every book fair, conversation often includes the thorny issue 'are we ever going to see new dealers joining the trade?' Everyone has a view but there are no real statistics on which to base any judgment. The trade is changing – and there are huge pressures to change the way dealers buy, market and sell. Dealers also face huge challenges: from fewer good new titles (published by mainstream houses), e-books, and from poorly produced self-published titles manufactured by the 'Print on Demand' (P.O.D) process."

Die anonyme Umfrage – bei jeder Antwort wird der Standort des Antiquariats (Großbritannien, Nordamerika, Australien und Ozeanien, Europa und Andere) angeben – soll erste Informationen hierzu ermitteln. Gefragt wird etwa in welchem Alter man den Antiquarsberuf ergriff, welche Pläne es für das Fortbestehen des Antiquariats gibt, wenn der derzeitige Besitzer in Ruhestand tritt, und: ob man sich vorstellen könne, in Zukunft auch mit E-Books zu handeln.
